Aluminum clad steel (Aluminum Clad - ACS) is manufactured with a high conductivity aluminum coating on a central steel wire.
The aluminum layer is coated on the steel core without welding and in a uniform manner. The coating does not lose its adhesion during transfer and bending.
The thickness of the aluminum layer constitutes approximately 25% of the total cross-sectional area, with a minimum of 10% of the wire diameter.
The conductivity of ACS wire is related to the thickness of the aluminum layer. Conductivity values between 14% and 40% ACS are possible.
The thickness of the aluminum layer is increased according to the increase in the conductivity value. Aluminum coated steel (ACS) has high corrosion resistance, high strength value and high electrical conductivity properties.
These features are very suitable for use in high voltage line grounding wires. It is also used as a steel core in ACSR conductors as well as in OPGW and grounding and conductors.
At high frequency, the skin effect is an important factor.
Since most of the electric current is transmitted on the outer surface of the conductor, the aluminum layer operates at 100% capacity in situations such as lightning strikes.
