When Class I and Class II SPDs are not sufficient to protect sensitive electronic elements, Class III elements stop additional surges. The incidence of low-value surges can still be very high for electronic elements and are common in the object itself, usually caused by activation switching of main devices, inductive devices and motors, or industrial system operating faults. The purpose of SPDs with IEC Class III / EN Type 3 classification is to protect sensitive electronic installations in Zones 2-3 in accordance with IEC 62305.
